A course for teacher trainers and teachers from nursery, pre-primary and primary schools.

There will be 2 Sessions, one in June 2012  and one in October -November 2012.

  This course can be funded through the European Lifelong Learning Programme COMENIUS - in-service training.
  It is on the COMENIUS/GRUNDTVIG training database  with reference Number   IT-2012-787-002

Location: The course will be held in Italy, in the wonderful  Liberty Style Villa of the famous mathematician Vito Volterra in Ariccia, very close to Rome. 

Aims of the course:
Participants will

- be introduced to the theoretical aspects of bilingual development;

- become familiar with the Narrative Format Model of teaching languages to young children;

- act out and sing with gestures following stories from the five levels of the Narrative Format materials “The Adventures of Hocus and Lotus”;

- consider ways of creating positive relationships between teachers and pupils’ families;

- learn how to integrate practical and theoretical pedagogical elements into training courses;

- discuss the emotional and motivational aspects of training a group of teachers.

Contents of the course:

This theoretical and practical course aims to provide participants with the knowledge and skills required to organise and manage training courses based on the Narrative Format Model. It will provide both a theoretical background and a practical method for teaching languages to children using the model. The course will also enable participants to confidently  plan, organise and deliver training to teachers intending to use the Narrative Format in their classrooms and to cope with the emotional and motivational issues of managing a training group.
During the programme there will also be two visits to the Eternal City!

 Who should apply?

• Staff in nursery and primary schools who are teaching languages or who intend to do so;

• Teacher trainers providing courses for teachers of languages to younger children;

• Advisers and consultants involved in planning and providing professional development in early language learning.
